Cow & Buffalo Trade Platform
India trades 300 million head of cattle a year through middlemen — we're building the digital mandi.
India has 303 million cattle and buffalo — the largest bovine population on earth — and a dairy industry worth ₹13 lakh crore. Yet the single biggest transaction a small farmer ever makes, buying or selling a milch animal, still happens through informal mandis, district agents and word-of-mouth chains where commissions can range from 15 to 30 per cent and disease screening is virtually non-existent.
BIDUA Industries sees an opportunity to build the trust layer this market has never had: a verified, app-first cattle trading platform with vet-certified listings, lineage records, milk-yield history, transport orchestration and escrow-protected payments. Think of it as an OLX for cattle — but with the seriousness of a livestock exchange.
If validated, this is a potential category-defining play in agritech. Cattle are the single largest non-land asset on most Indian farms, and the market for buying, selling and financing them is comparable in size to the entire used-car industry — but completely undigitised.
Every village in India already runs a cattle market — they meet on the second Tuesday under a banyan tree. The opportunity is not to replace that ritual. It is to put a verified spine underneath it.
The opportunity, on its own terms.
Smartphones reached the village.
Rural India has 425M+ smartphone users in 2026. The same farmer who once relied on a district agent now compares fertilizer prices on three apps.
Dairy is the largest rural employer.
80M households depend on cattle for primary or supplementary income. A 5 per cent commission saving on a ₹60,000 buffalo is a month's wages.
Disease risk is now a national emergency.
Lumpy Skin Disease killed 1.8L cattle across India in 2022-23. Verified health certificates and movement tracking are no longer optional — they are demanded by state veterinary departments.
FPO and NBFC ecosystem is mature.
10,000+ Farmer Producer Organisations and a wave of agri-NBFCs (Samunnati, Jai Kisan) need a digital trading layer to underwrite cattle loans — which is the real long-term monetisation.
Sized in three rings.
- Milch buffalo (Murrah, Mehsana) trades at ₹70,000–1,50,000 per animal at peak lactation.
- Holstein-Friesian crossbred cow: ₹50,000–1,20,000 depending on yield history.
- Approximately 40–50 million cattle change hands every year in India — most off-record.
- Cattle insurance penetration is under 8% — a parallel revenue stream if listings can be underwritten.
How it works, end to end.
Verified listings
Sellers list animals with photos, video, lineage, milk-yield records and a mandatory health certificate signed by a registered veterinarian. BIDUA pays the vet visit fee upfront and recovers it on successful sale.
Buyer trust layer
Every animal carries a tamper-proof QR/RFID ear tag linked to its digital record. Buyers see vaccination history, previous owners, milk yield curve and any disease flags before they travel.
Transport orchestration
BIDUA-vetted livestock transporters with GPS-tracked vehicles, insurance and inter-state permit handling. Removes the single biggest friction in cattle trade today.
Escrow + dispute resolution
Payment held in escrow for 7 days post-delivery. If the animal is misrepresented (yield, disease, age), BIDUA mediates with vet inspection. Builds the trust that informal mandis cannot.
Financing & insurance overlay
Verified listings + buyer KYC become the foundation for cattle loans and insurance. BIDUA earns origination commission from NBFC and insurance partners — the real long-term margin pool.
Three compounding phases.
Listing & transaction
- Listing fees (₹200-500 per animal)
- Success commission (2-3% of sale value)
- Premium seller subscriptions for traders
- Vet visit fees (recovered + margin)
Services layer
- Transport orchestration margin (8-12%)
- Insurance commission (15-20% of premium)
- Cattle loan origination (1-2% of disbursed)
- Auction format for premium animals
Data & infrastructure
- Lineage / genetics database licensing to dairy cooperatives
- Feed and veterinary product marketplace
- Government tender — animal health tracking
- Subscription dashboards for FPOs and dairy unions
Patient cadence, deliberate steps.

Who else is here — and why we're different.
- Vet-on-call verification — every premium listing carries a signed certificate, not just seller claims.
- Escrow with vet-mediated dispute resolution — the trust gap incumbents do not solve.
- Transport orchestration as a first-class product, not an afterthought.
- Built for the financing + insurance flywheel from day one, not as an afterthought.
What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.
Trust deficit — farmers don't trust apps with high-value animal transactions
Mitigation: Phygital model: BIDUA-employed field agents in every pilot district. Cash-on-delivery escrow. Vet inspection before payment release.
Disease outbreak liability
Mitigation: Mandatory vet certification + insurance bundling. Movement tracking aligned with state veterinary department protocols.
Regulatory — cattle transport is politically sensitive across states
Mitigation: Focus on dairy cattle (milch buffalo, cows) only. Full inter-state permit compliance. Avoid male buffalo / aged cattle entirely.
Animall and MeraPashu360 are well-funded incumbents
Mitigation: Compete on verification depth, not listing volume. Anchor on financing partnerships from day one — that is the moat.
Long unit economics — cattle is a once-in-3-years purchase
Mitigation: Stack insurance, feed, breeding services on the same farmer relationship. LTV builds from recurring services, not transaction.

ip.bidua.inQuestions partners and investors actually ask.
Is this a fintech or a marketplace?
Both, eventually. We start as a verified marketplace because that is where the trust problem is. Financing and insurance follow once the data is real.
How do you verify a milk-yield claim?
Vet measures yield at the time of the listing visit — two milking sessions, recorded on video. Prior history is cross-referenced with the dairy collection society where the animal was registered.
What happens if the animal falls sick after sale?
Our standard escrow holds payment for 7 days. If a vet confirms a pre-existing condition was hidden, the sale is reversed and we pay the transport back. We are also bundling first-month health insurance.
Why not include bulls and beef cattle?
Politically and operationally hazardous in India. We deliberately scope to dairy cattle — milch buffalo, milch cows, female calves and breeding bulls only.
How is this different from Animall?
Animall is a classifieds product. We are building a verified, escrow-backed transaction layer with a financing engine. Different category.
What is the commission?
Indicative: 2-3% success fee from the seller, much lower than the 15-30% farmers pay informal agents today.
Does BIDUA own the animals?
No. We are a platform — animals are owned by farmers and traders. BIDUA earns from verification, transaction, transport and financing services.
When does this go live?
Pilot targeted Q2 2027 in 3 districts of Punjab and Haryana. Public launch depends on pilot validation.
Help us pilot the first verified cattle marketplace in India.
We are looking for dairy cooperatives, vet networks, FPOs and rural NBFCs to partner on the 2027 Punjab-Haryana pilot.
