Overview

Govt Exam Travel Planning is a BIDUA concept for a dedicated logistics platform that solves the non-academic side of taking a competitive exam in India — UPSC, SSC, banking, railway, state PSCs, JEE, NEET and similar.

Every year, an estimated 3+ crore Indians take a government or competitive exam. A significant fraction travel out of their home district — often to a city they have never visited — for a 3-hour test. They juggle train bookings, last-minute PG stays, finding cheap food that won't upset their stomach, and figuring out how to reach the exam centre by 8 AM in an unfamiliar city.

Today this happens through fragmented WhatsApp forums, coaching-institute WhatsApp groups, and word of mouth. The platform thesis: a single app that takes the exam roll-number and date as input and outputs a complete travel plan — train option, verified nearby PG, food, transport to the centre, and an emergency SOS.

A government-exam aspirant in India does not need another mock test. They need to know where to sleep the night before, how to reach the gate by 8 AM, and what to eat without falling sick.

Why now

The opportunity, on its own terms.

01

The aspirant base is huge and digitally native.

UPSC alone gets 10–13 L applicants. Banking and SSC each cross 20–40 L. Every one of them has a smartphone, UPI and the willingness to pay ₹49–₹299 for convenience.

02

Post-COVID hostel/PG digitisation is real.

A long tail of small PG operators are now listed on platforms like Stanza Living, Your Space, and local Justdial-tier directories — verifiable supply exists.

03

Government-exam logistics is no one's product.

RedBus does buses, IRCTC does trains, OYO does rooms, Zomato does food — but no one stitches them around an exam centre and exam date.

04

A natural acquisition funnel for FinWault.

First-time aspirants are also first-time fintech users. The platform doubles as a low-cost user-acquisition channel for BIDUA's downstream products.

Market opportunity

Sized in three rings.

Total addressable
Estimated ₹8,000–12,000 cr / yr
Indian exam-travel spend
If validated, double-digit growth as digital aspirant base expands
Serviceable
Potentially ₹3,500 cr / yr
Out-of-district aspirant travel
Highest density in UP, Bihar, MP, Rajasthan
BIDUA share aim
If validated: 5 M active aspirants, ₹250 cr GMV
Platform 5-yr target
Take rate 6–10% across travel, stay, food
  • UPSC Prelims: ~13 L applicants annually. Mains and interviews concentrate in Delhi.
  • SSC CGL: ~25 L+ applicants. Centres spread across every state capital.
  • Banking exams (IBPS, SBI): ~40 L+ applicants annually.
  • JEE Main, NEET: ~25 L+ applicants combined, with high out-of-state mobility.

Business model

How it works, end to end.

01

Roll-number-driven onboarding

User enters exam name, roll number and exam-centre address. The platform auto-builds a 24-hour itinerary — from arrival the previous evening to post-exam departure.

02

Verified PG/hostel inventory

Tie-ups with PG operators within a 3 km radius of major exam centres. Pre-vetted for cleanliness, female-safe options, and proximity. Prices fixed during exam-day surge windows.

03

Bundled transport

Train, bus and last-mile (Uber/Ola/local auto) bookings woven into a single payment. Auto-suggested arrival windows ensure a buffer before exam start.

04

Exam-day care kit

Optional add-on — water, light snacks, photo ID copies, masks, pens. Delivered to the booked PG the night before.

05

Subscription tier

Annual aspirant pass (₹499/year) gives unlimited planning, priority PG inventory, and discounted travel partner rates across multiple exam cycles.

Revenue streams

Three compounding phases.

Years 1–2

Planning utility

  • Annual aspirant subscription (₹499)
  • PG/hostel booking commissions (10–15%)
  • Train/bus affiliate revenue
  • Cab tie-up commissions
Years 2–4

Bundled commerce

  • Exam-day care kit margin
  • Coaching-institute lead generation
  • Banking and insurance lead-gen for FinWault
  • Mock-test and study-material affiliate
Years 4–6

Aspirant lifetime value

  • Cross-sell to BIDUA Beauty, Naploo, FinWault
  • Career-stage products (loans, insurance, jobs)
  • Sponsored content from edtech players
  • Data-driven exam-trend reports sold to govt and edtech

Competitive landscape

Who else is here — and why we're different.

01 OYO / Treebo / Stanza Living Stay providers: Have inventory but no exam-centric workflow. Could be inventory partners rather than competitors.
02 IRCTC / RedBus / Uber Transport rails: Solve one leg each. None integrate around an exam date or centre. Easy API integrations rather than competition.
03 Coaching institutes (Unacademy, BYJU's, PW) Adjacent edtech: Focus on academic prep, not exam-day logistics. Potential distribution partners — not competitors.
What BIDUA does differently
  • Only platform organised around exam roll-number and centre — not city or date.
  • Pre-negotiated exam-day surge protection — prices fixed in advance for verified PGs.
  • Female-safety filter built in — critical for the large share of female aspirants.
  • Acts as a top-of-funnel for FinWault, Naploo and other BIDUA divisions — aspirant LTV is multi-product.

Risks & mitigation

What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.

Risk 1

Demand seasonality

Mitigation: Spread across 5+ major exam cycles per year to smooth the calendar; subscription product locks in recurring revenue.

Risk 2

PG quality control failures

Mitigation: In-person audits before listing, mandatory review-after-stay, three-strike delisting policy, sample night-stay audits during exam season.

Risk 3

Last-mile transport reliability

Mitigation: Multiple cab partners per city, fall-back to local auto/rickshaw partners, in-app SOS, 2-hour buffer baked into recommended schedules.

Risk 4

Misuse / fraudulent roll numbers

Mitigation: Roll-number validation via public exam-portal APIs where available; otherwise PG-side ID verification at check-in.

Risk 5

Low willingness-to-pay in low-income aspirant base

Mitigation: Free planning tier with affiliate-only monetisation, paid tier only for premium add-ons; partnerships with coaching institutes to subsidise.

Common questions

Questions partners and investors actually ask.

How do I start planning?

Enter your exam name, exam date and centre address (or admit card upload). The platform builds a 24-hour itinerary including stay, transport and food.

Are the PGs safe for female aspirants?

PGs marked 'female-safe' undergo additional vetting — separate floor or building, female warden, CCTV at entry, no co-ed common areas during exam windows.

What does it cost?

Basic planning is free. Annual subscription (₹499) unlocks priority PG inventory, fixed exam-day rates and care-kit discounts. Bookings carry standard platform commissions.

What if my exam is rescheduled?

All bookings made via the platform are auto-refundable in case of an official exam reschedule notification. Documented through the exam portal's official channels.

Does it work for state-level exams?

Initial focus is national exams (UPSC, SSC, IBPS, JEE, NEET). State PSCs roll in from 2031.

Can coaching institutes partner with the platform?

Yes — co-branded landing pages, bulk subscriptions for batches, and joint exam-day kits are available to coaching partners.

Is the food on the kit guaranteed safe?

Care-kit items are sealed packaged goods from FSSAI-certified vendors. Hot food is not part of the default kit to avoid hygiene risk.
