Handheld Video Game Console
An Indian-made handheld console that doesn't ask families to choose between price and quality.
India has 568 million gamers but fewer than 4 million dedicated gaming consoles. Sony's PlayStation 5 sells at ₹54,990 here. The Nintendo Switch is grey-import only and costs ₹35,000+. The Steam Deck is not officially available. The result: a generation of Indian gamers who play exclusively on phones because there is no honestly-priced handheld in the market.
BIDUA's Handheld Video Game Console targets that gap. A 5.5-inch IPS device built on a licensed ARM SoC reference platform, running an Android-based gaming layer with a curated library of 200+ retro and casual titles pre-loaded. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth controllers, HDMI-out to TV, and an optional cloud-gaming subscription that streams AAA titles over BIDUA Hosting infrastructure.
Status is idea — concept and target costing complete, ODM partner shortlist underway. The economic case rests on hitting a true sub-₹5,000 price point while delivering a build quality that doesn't feel like a Chinatown knockoff.
India skipped the console generation entirely — went from arcade to mobile gaming with nothing in between. That is not a missing market, it is a wide open one waiting for an honest local product.
The opportunity, on its own terms.
Mobile gaming saturation.
Indian mobile gaming hours have plateaued in 2025. The audience is mature enough to want a dedicated device that doesn't drain their phone or burn their fingers during long sessions.
Retro-gaming nostalgia is mainstream.
The 1990s arcade-and-NES generation in India is now 35–45 years old with disposable income. They want to play Mario, Contra and Street Fighter on a real device, with their kids.
Cloud-gaming infrastructure is finally here.
Jio's fibre footprint and 5G coverage now reach 100M+ Indian households with the latency budget for cloud gaming. A device that includes a cloud-streaming option ships at the right moment.
PLI for electronics manufacturing.
The Production-Linked Incentive scheme for IT hardware gives 4–6% on incremental sales for India-assembled devices. A handheld console qualifies and can structurally undercut import-only competitors.
Sized in three rings.
- 568M Indian gamers (Lumikai 2024 report).
- Sub-₹10k console category effectively unfilled in organised retail.
- Cloud-gaming subscribers in India crossed 1.2M in 2024 (Jio Cloud Games, Nvidia GeForce Now).
- Educational/STEM angle — handheld coding-game variant for schools.
How it works, end to end.
Hardware sales
Two SKUs — Base at ₹4,999 with retro library pre-loaded, Pro at ₹7,999 with cloud-gaming subscription bundled for 12 months. Sold via D2C and marketplaces.
Cloud-gaming subscription
₹299/month or ₹2,499/year for unlimited cloud streaming of licensed AAA titles. Streams over BIDUA Hosting GPU instances. Highest-margin recurring stream.
Game-store revenue share
Curated app store for the platform. 30% rev share with Indian indie developers — a fraction of Apple's 30% but accretive to BIDUA at scale.
Education SKU
Variant pre-loaded with STEM games and coding puzzles, sold to schools at ₹3,499 per unit in bulk. Government-procurement-eligible under Digital India schemes.
Three compounding phases.

- Cloud-gaming layer built on BIDUA Hosting infrastructure — Indian latency, Indian data residency.
- Curated indie + retro library with proper licensing — no grey-zone ROMs.
- Education SKU opens a government-procurement channel that import-only competitors cannot serve.
What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.
Game-licensing cost overruns
Mitigation: Lead with Indian indie titles and out-of-copyright retro games. AAA cloud streaming licensed on a per-stream royalty rather than upfront fees.
Component cost surge
Mitigation: Dual-source the SoC (MediaTek and Allwinner reference designs evaluated). PLI incentive partially insulates the BOM.
Mobile-gaming cannibalisation
Mitigation: Position as a family / shared device with TV-out and multiplayer, not a phone replacement. Education angle further differentiates.
Cloud-gaming latency complaints
Mitigation: Auto-detect connection quality, fall back to local games when bandwidth degrades. Transparent latency indicator in UI.
Returns and durability
Mitigation: Rugged TPU bumper as standard. 18-month warranty. Doorstep service in 30 cities through BIDUA's existing logistics partner.
