World's most polluted cities — in India

Overview

An oxygen bar is a wellness lounge where guests inhale 92–95% pure oxygen infused with optional aromatherapy notes — peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, lemongrass — for 15 to 30 minutes. The format has run for 25 years in Tokyo, Beijing, Las Vegas and Dubai. In Indian cities choking under AQI 300+ for half the year, the proposition writes itself.

BIDUA Industries is evaluating a small-format premium oxygen bar concept for malls, airports, business-class lounges and high-end gyms. Sessions are positioned not as medicine but as a luxury reset — like a 20-minute facial for your lungs.

Status: idea-stage. Numbers cited are expected/potential, contingent on a Delhi pilot and consumer-acceptance validation.

We sell water in bottles because the tap is poisoned. We will sell oxygen in lounges for the same reason — and Delhi will be the first market that actually needs it.

Why now

The opportunity, on its own terms.

01

Delhi NCR averaged AQI 300+ for 156 days in 2024.

Air quality is no longer a niche concern — it is a default lifestyle stressor for 50+ million urban Indians.

02

The wellness category exploded post-2020.

Cryotherapy, IV drips, infrared saunas, breathwork studios — Indian urban consumers are now spending ₹1,500–4,000 on 30-minute wellness experiences as routine indulgence.

03

Airports are commercial real-estate gold.

GMR, Adani and Bengaluru airport operators are aggressively expanding wellness retail. A 200 sq ft kiosk in Delhi T3 sees 60,000+ eyeballs a day.

04

Domestic medical-grade O₂ supply is finally robust.

Post-COVID, India has surplus medical-oxygen production capacity. PSA generators are affordable and locally manufactured.

Market opportunity

~3 lakh sessions/year at stabilisation
  • Avg ticket size: ₹399–599 per session (15 min) plus add-on aromatherapy.
  • Airport footfall conversion: industry benchmarks 0.4–0.8% — a 50,000-daily-footfall airport = 200+ sessions/day potential.
  • Spa-and-wellness gross margins: 55–70% — consumables are low cost.
  • Cross-sell potential to massage, head spa, sleep pods, infrared sauna.

Business model

How it works, end to end.

01

Compact lounge format

150–300 sq ft footprint. 6–10 stations per lounge — comfortable recliners, single-use sterile nasal cannulas, ambient lighting, curated soundscape. Operates 14 hours/day.

02

Aromatherapy menu

Eight signature blends — Calm (lavender, chamomile), Energy (peppermint, citrus), Focus (rosemary, eucalyptus), Sleep (bergamot, vetiver), etc. Premium blends use BIDUA Beauty Care essential-oil supply chain.

03

Three location archetypes

Airport (T3/T2, high footfall, business travellers), Mall (Tier-1, weekend wellness), Hotel/Gym (in-residence wellness add-on). Different design language, same operating SOP.

04

Membership & corporate tie-ins

₹1,999/month unlimited sessions for one location; ₹3,999/month all-locations. Corporate wellness contracts with IT campuses — bulk session packs.

05

Cross-sell wellness products

Retail shelf — aroma diffusers, essential oil blends, sleep masks, BIDUA Beauty Care line. Lounge converts to a discovery channel for the broader wellness portfolio.

Competitive landscape

Who else is here — and why we're different.

01 Oxypure / Aerobar (existing oxygen bars in India) Local operators: Small footprint, mostly Delhi. Limited branding, inconsistent experience, weak retail layer.
02 International chains (O2 Lounge, Breathe — Dubai/Asia) Global format: Proven model abroad. No serious India presence yet — opening is structural.
03 Adjacent wellness (cryo, IV drip, head spa) Substitute experiences: Same urban-wellness wallet. Higher ticket size, lower frequency — oxygen plays at frequency.
What BIDUA does differently
  • Aromatherapy menu built on BIDUA Beauty Care's essential-oil supply chain — vertical advantage on margin and quality.
  • Standardised, hospitality-grade SOPs — same experience whether you walk into Delhi T3 or Bengaluru UB City.
  • Membership pricing turns one-off curiosity into a 12-month wellness ritual.
  • Cross-sell into a wider BIDUA wellness retail funnel.

Risks & mitigation

What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.

Risk 1

Consumer scepticism — 'is this medicinally useful?'

Mitigation: Position as luxury wellness, not therapy. No medical claims. Lifestyle marketing, not pharmacy marketing.

Risk 2

Hygiene & disposables compliance

Mitigation: Single-use sterile cannulas, mandatory sanitisation between sessions, staff trained on infection-control SOP.

Risk 3

High real-estate cost at airports/malls

Mitigation: Revenue-share lease models. Compact footprint. Membership locks in fixed revenue against variable rent.

Risk 4

Regulatory ambiguity — medical-grade O₂ in retail

Mitigation: Use 92–95% concentrator-grade (not medical-grade); position as 'enriched air'; maintain advisory from FSSAI / drug-controller equivalent.

Risk 5

Trend fatigue

Mitigation: Anchor in airport channel — captive footfall, low impulse-cost decision. Trend-resistant if format becomes a routine layover ritual.

Common questions

Questions partners and investors actually ask.

Is this medically beneficial?

We make no medical claims. Users typically report feeling relaxed, more alert and refreshed after a session — similar to a short meditation or aromatherapy treatment. It is a wellness experience, not a treatment.

Is it safe?

Yes — 92–95% concentrator-grade O₂, delivered through single-use sterile cannulas. Sessions are limited to 30 minutes. Staff are trained in basic safety protocols.

Who shouldn't use an oxygen bar?

Anyone with COPD, asthma on supplemental O₂, or specific cardiac conditions should consult their physician first. We screen at intake.

How long is a session?

Standard 15 minutes; premium 30 minutes. Aromatherapy add-ons included in the premium tier.

What does it cost?

Expected pricing — ₹299 for 15-minute basic, ₹599 for 30-minute premium with aromatherapy. Membership at ₹1,999/month unlimited at one location.

Why airports?

Captive audience, predictable footfall, business travellers willing to pay for a 20-minute reset before a flight. Airport unit economics work harder than mall units.

Is the aromatherapy genuinely BIDUA-made?

Yes — formulated by the BIDUA Beauty Care fragrance team using the same essential-oil supply chain that goes into our skincare line.

Where does BIDUA fit?

BIDUA Beauty Care supplies essential oils and aroma blends; Naploo-style hospitality SOPs inform the in-lounge experience; BIDUA Hosting runs the membership and POS system.
