Social Media App (Grookup)
A privacy-first social network built in India, for India — where the feed serves you, not the algorithm.
Grookup is BIDUA's bet that India is ready for a homegrown social platform built on different defaults — privacy by design, community over reach, and content that surfaces because people care about it, not because an ad auction decided so. We are building it as a mobile-first app with web parity, Indian-language search and feeds, and a feed model that rewards depth instead of dwell-time.
The Indian social media market is dominated by Meta and ByteDance properties — but trust has been eroding. RBI's data localisation push, the DPDP Act 2023, repeated bans on Chinese-origin apps, and growing public scepticism about algorithmic feeds have opened a window. A locally-hosted, locally-governed, locally-moderated alternative has a structural advantage no global player can match.
Grookup is in active development. The platform is being built on BIDUA Hosting infrastructure with PersistIP handling identity and networking layers, which keeps unit economics under our control from day one. We are launching with a creator and small-business focus before opening general consumer signup.
The world doesn't need another infinite scroll. It needs a place where a small group of people can be real with each other — and where the platform doesn't sell that intimacy to the highest bidder.
The opportunity, on its own terms.
DPDP Act 2023 is now enforceable.
Every foreign social platform is scrambling to comply with Indian data-localisation rules. A platform built India-native is already compliant — competitors are retrofitting.
Trust in foreign feeds is at an all-time low.
Cambridge Analytica, repeated TikTok bans, and visible algorithmic manipulation have made urban Indian users actively look for alternatives. Koo's collapse left a vacuum, not a verdict.
Creator economy needs better economics.
Indian creators on Instagram and YouTube give up 30–55% to platform fees and ad cuts. A platform built around direct monetisation can offer materially better take-rates and still be profitable.
Vernacular-first is now table stakes.
90% of new Indian internet users are non-English-first. Existing platforms bolt on Hindi and regional support — Grookup is being built with Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi and Telugu as primary languages, not afterthoughts.
Sized in three rings.
- 820M+ Indians online; ~600M active on at least one social platform every month.
- Indian influencer marketing alone is a ₹3,500 cr industry growing 25% YoY.
- Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities now drive >60% of new social media signups in India.
- DPDP-compliant, India-hosted platforms get strong preference from government, BFSI and education sector buyers.
How it works, end to end.
Free consumer tier
Open signup with full feature parity. Feed is chronological by default with opt-in topic-based discovery. No surveillance-style ad targeting — contextual ads only, served against the content you are currently viewing.
Grookup Pro (creators)
₹299/month subscription for creators. Includes paywalled posts, fan subscriptions, direct tips via UPI, detailed analytics, scheduled publishing and priority support. Platform takes 10% — materially below Meta/YouTube's effective rates.
Grookup for Business
₹1,499/month per brand seat. Verified business profiles, lead-gen tools, customer DM workflows, and integration with WhatsApp Business API. Designed for D2C brands and local services.
Contextual ad marketplace
Self-serve ad platform with content-context targeting rather than personal-profile targeting. Lower CPMs, but verifiable brand-safe placement and full DPDP audit trail.
Infrastructure resale
Grookup runs on BIDUA Hosting. As the platform scales, capacity buildout doubles as a flagship reference deployment for BIDUA Hosting's enterprise sales.
Three compounding phases.

What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.
Network-effect cold start
Mitigation: Creator-led launch with 500 paid founding creators who bring built-in audiences. BIDUA portfolio promotion across Naploo, Beauty, Pods customer base.
Moderation at scale
Mitigation: Hybrid model — community moderators + ML classifiers + human review for high-risk content. Published transparency reports quarterly.
Capital intensity of consumer social
Mitigation: Sub-scale launch with strict CAC discipline. Pro/Business tiers monetise from day one — not a pure growth play.
Regulatory shift on intermediary liability
Mitigation: Active engagement with MeitY. Local hosting + local entity already aligns us with the most restrictive interpretation of IT Rules 2021.
Big Tech retaliation (App Store, ads)
Mitigation: Progressive web app parity, direct APK distribution channel, and an alternate identity stack via PersistIP.

When does Grookup launch publicly?
Closed beta in Q4 2026, public soft launch on Android in Q1 2027. iOS follows in Q2 2027.
How is Grookup different from Instagram or ShareChat?
Three things: chronological feed by default, India-hosted/DPDP-native architecture, and a creator take-rate of 90% instead of 55–70%.
What languages will be supported at launch?
Hindi, English, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi and Telugu at launch — with Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati and Punjabi within six months.
How does Grookup make money without selling user data?
Contextual ads (no behavioural profile required), creator/business subscriptions, and a small marketplace take-rate on paid content. Profitable unit economics by Year 3.
Is my data really private?
Yes — fully hosted in India on BIDUA Hosting, encrypted at rest, no sale to third parties, and a DPDP-aligned consent dashboard inside every account.
Can businesses run paid campaigns on Grookup?
Yes, from Q2 2028 via a self-serve contextual ad marketplace. Until then, brand partnerships are handled by our team directly.
Will Grookup work in Tier-3 and Tier-4 towns on slow networks?
Yes. The Android app is engineered for sub-50 MB install size and works fluently on 2G/3G with aggressive caching.
Is BIDUA looking for investors in Grookup?
We are running a strategic round in 2027 alongside the public launch. Reach out via the BIDUA team for the data room.
Be among the first 500 founding creators.
Grookup is recruiting Indian creators across 5 languages for its closed beta. Better economics. Honest reach. Real privacy.
