Overview

The Train Theft Alert Device is a small accelerometer-and-BLE coin, the size of a 10-rupee piece, that clips onto the handle, zipper or lock of a suitcase. It pairs with the owner's phone via Bluetooth. If the suitcase is moved beyond a configurable distance from the owner — say, the next berth — the device sounds a 120 dB onboard siren and the phone vibrates and rings even on silent.

Indian Railways carries 23 million passengers every day. The Government of India's own Standing Committee on Railways has flagged luggage theft and tampering as one of the top three passenger-experience complaints, particularly in sleeper, 3A and chair-car. There is no incumbent consumer product in India that solves this — Apple AirTag is close but it is a tracker, not an alarm.

The product is positioned at ₹1,499 — affordable for the lower-middle-class and middle-class Indian rail traveller, gift-friendly, and impulse-buyable. Sold D2C and through railway-station retail (IRCTC ecatering counters, station bookstores). A second SKU for inter-city bus travel and airport check-in extends the addressable market.

Anyone who has slept on an Indian sleeper-class berth has woken up at least once at 3 a.m. and reflexively checked that the suitcase chain is still locked. We are building the device that lets you actually sleep through the rest of the trip.

Why now

The opportunity, on its own terms.

01

Indian Railways carries 23 million passengers a day.

Even a 1% incidence of theft anxiety means 230,000 nervous passengers daily — and most of them already own a smartphone capable of pairing the device.

02

The smartphone has reached the sleeper-class traveller.

Sub-₹10,000 smartphones with Bluetooth and 4G are now the default. The base of users who can pair a BLE device is no longer limited to the AC-coach demographic.

03

AirTags created the category but did not solve the problem.

AirTag is a tracker — it tells you where the bag is after it has been stolen. Our device prevents the theft by making it audible and visible at the moment of attempt.

04

Trust in railway-side theft prevention is low.

RPF and TTE complaints often take months to resolve. Travellers self-insure with locks and chains. A ₹1,499 alarm is a cheaper, more reliable layer than waiting for institutional response.

Market opportunity

Sized in three rings.

Total addressable
₹2,800 cr / yr
India travel safety accessories (expected)
Potential 16% CAGR through 2030
Serviceable
₹350 cr / yr (if validated)
BLE tracker and alarm segment
Estimated 30% CAGR
BIDUA share aim
200,000 units / yr
BIDUA 2029 target
Potential ₹30 cr revenue at scale
  • Indian Railways operates 13,000+ passenger trains daily — a captive distribution opportunity if the IRCTC channel opens.
  • Apple AirTag sold an estimated 200,000+ units in India in 2025 despite costing ₹3,500 and lacking an alarm — there is proven willingness to pay.
  • Inter-city bus and budget-airline travellers form a secondary addressable market of an estimated 80 million unique annual travellers.
  • Gifting season (Diwali, wedding season) accounts for an estimated 30% of premium travel-accessory sales annually.

Business model

How it works, end to end.

01

D2C and marketplace launch

Launch on bidua.in, Amazon India and Flipkart with a clear travel-safety positioning. Pricing tiers at ₹1,499 (single) and ₹2,499 (pair). Margin healthy on both.

02

IRCTC and station retail

Engage IRCTC and station retail chains (Wheeler, Higginbothams) for in-station distribution. Impulse purchase right before boarding is a powerful channel.

03

Travel insurance bundling

Partner with travel insurers (Acko, Digit, ICICI Lombard) to bundle the device into railway travel insurance plans. A two-rupee insurance premium adds a device worth ₹1,499 in perceived value.

04

Corporate gifting

IT services and consulting firms whose employees travel frequently — TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture — buy in bulk as part of joining kits or annual welcome packs.

05

App-based recurring

Premium app subscription (₹99/month) for cloud-based location history, multi-bag dashboard, family sharing and 'lost and found' community help. A future ARR layer.

Competitive landscape

Who else is here — and why we're different.

01 Apple AirTag Global tracker: Tracker, not an alarm. Requires Apple ecosystem. ₹3,500 entry price. We are the alarm-first Android-friendly alternative.
02 Samsung SmartTag Global tracker: Samsung-ecosystem locked. Same tracker-not-alarm gap as AirTag.
03 Generic Chinese BLE alarms Import: Cheap (₹400–600) but poor build, no app support, no warranty. The category exists but is broken.
What BIDUA does differently
  • Loud 120 dB onboard alarm — not just a tracker.
  • Six-month battery on a single charge — the longest in the segment.
  • Android-and-iOS app, not ecosystem-locked.
  • Designed for the Indian rail use case — clips onto suitcase locks, chains and zippers.

Risks & mitigation

What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.

Risk 1

Battery depletion mid-journey

Mitigation: Six-month battery life, low-battery push notification a week in advance, simple coin-cell replacement.

Risk 2

False alarm in crowded coach

Mitigation: Configurable tether distance, motion-pattern recognition, manual snooze from the phone in three taps.

Risk 3

Theft of the device itself

Mitigation: Removing the device from the bag triggers the same alarm. Tamper-resistant clip design.

Risk 4

Marketplace knock-offs at ₹500

Mitigation: Design patent, BIDUA branding, app-locked features. Compete on build, warranty and app — not price.

Risk 5

User does not pair correctly

Mitigation: Two-step pairing flow, in-app video tutorial in Hindi and English, WhatsApp support line.

Common questions

Questions partners and investors actually ask.

How does the device know my bag has been moved?

It pairs with your phone over Bluetooth. If the device moves beyond a configurable distance from your phone — say 5 metres — it sounds a 120 dB onboard alarm and notifies your phone.

Will the alarm wake the whole coach?

Yes — 120 dB is the design intent. The point is to make theft loud, visible and embarrassing for the thief.

Does it need a SIM card or internet?

No — the core alarm works on Bluetooth alone. Cloud history and family sharing require internet, but the security function does not.

How long does the battery last?

Six months on a single coin-cell battery. The app shows battery level continuously and warns a week before depletion.

Does it work with iPhone and Android?

Yes — both. Companion app available on Play Store and App Store.

What if I want to leave my bag intentionally?

One tap in the app puts the device in 'parked' mode — no alarm, no notifications, until you re-arm it.

Can I track my bag if it gets stolen anyway?

Within Bluetooth range (30 m) yes. Beyond that, the community-find feature lets nearby BIDUA app users anonymously relay last-seen location — similar to AirTag's network.

What is the warranty?

One year on the device, lifetime free battery replacement at the Noida service centre if you ship it in.
