Umbrella with Fan & Powerbank
An umbrella for Indian summers, Indian monsoons, and the load-shedding hour in between.
Indian summers regularly cross 45°C in north India. Monsoon downpours flood metros. Power cuts during the worst heat are still routine across tier-2 and tier-3 cities. BIDUA's Smart Umbrella addresses all three at once — a sturdy auto-open umbrella with a battery-powered USB fan built into the underside of the canopy, a 5,000 mAh powerbank in the handle, and a soft LED night-light strip on the inner rim.
The product is targeted at three commuter archetypes: the 9-to-6 office-goer in Delhi/Bengaluru/Mumbai who walks 10–15 minutes between metro and office, the field-sales executive who spends hours outside in summer, and the school-college student who treats the umbrella as a daily-carry device through April–September.
Status is concept. The fan, battery and umbrella mechanism are all proven, off-the-shelf components — the engineering challenge is balance, weatherproofing and a usable button layout. Tooling and certification are the primary investment paths.
An umbrella is the most-used and least-loved gadget in any Indian commuter's life. We are not reinventing it — we are giving it one good reason to be the first thing you reach for and the last thing you regret carrying.
The opportunity, on its own terms.
Heat-stress is no longer seasonal.
Indian summers have lengthened by ~15 days over the past two decades. Field-workers and commuters now need cooling for 5+ months a year — not three.
Battery and BLDC fan costs have dropped.
A 5,000 mAh cell with a quiet BLDC fan now BOMs under USD 4 — making sub-₹2,000 retail viable with healthy margins.
Power-cut frequency in tier-2 cities.
Even in 2025, average urban load-shedding outside metros runs 4–6 hours a day in summer. A powerbank-equipped umbrella becomes a genuine utility, not a gimmick.
Gifting and corporate-branding market.
Indian corporate gifting crossed ₹4,500 cr in 2024. A branded smart umbrella is a more useful giveaway than yet another notebook or coffee mug.
Sized in three rings.
- ~120M umbrellas sold in India per year (organised + unorganised).
- Premium umbrella segment growing 15% YoY (Stag, Cheergo, John's).
- Corporate gifting category ₹4,500 cr — top-3 SKU is portable electronics.
- Heatwave alerts triggered in 18 Indian states during summer 2024.
How it works, end to end.
D2C and marketplace sales
Sold via biduapods.com, Amazon and Flipkart at ₹1,799 MRP. 33% gross margin after BOM, certification and channel.
Corporate gifting B2B
Bulk orders 500+ units at ₹1,200 wholesale, with corporate logo printed on the canopy. Diwali, conference and HR-onboarding gift seasons drive the volume.
Hospitality and event partnerships
Naploo properties and event-venue partners buy in 100-unit batches for guest loaners and resale. Co-branded with property logo.
Replacement and accessory line
Replacement canopy fabrics in multiple colours, replacement battery packs and matching travel sleeves — small-volume but high-margin attachments.
Three compounding phases.

Who else is here — and why we're different.
- Only BIS-certified Indian smart umbrella combining fan, powerbank and LED in one device.
- Balanced weight distribution engineered so the powerbank in the handle doesn't make the umbrella tip forward.
- USB-C in and out — same port charges the umbrella and your phone, no extra cables.
- Naploo and corporate-gifting channels provide a B2B floor that pure-play retail competitors don't have.
What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.
Monsoon water ingress damaging electronics
Mitigation: IPX4-rated electronics with sealed battery compartment. Field-tested through a full Mumbai monsoon during beta. Replaceable battery so a damaged cell doesn't kill the umbrella.
Weight balance complaints
Mitigation: Counterweighted handle design with extensive ergonomic testing. Two SKUs — Standard (5,000 mAh) and Lite (2,500 mAh) — let users trade capacity for weight.
Seasonal demand concentration
Mitigation: Sold year-round through corporate-gifting and hospitality channels. Standard umbrella functionality means it remains useful in monsoon and winter.
Cheap imports undercutting on price
Mitigation: Compete on BIS certification, warranty, durability and channel — not raw sticker price. B2B gifting buyers will not buy uncertified imports.

biduahosting.comQuestions partners and investors actually ask.
Is it safe to use in heavy rain?
Yes. The electronics compartment is IPX4-sealed. We field-tested through a full Mumbai monsoon. Avoid submerging the handle in standing water.
How long does the fan run on a full charge?
3 hours on max, 6 hours on low. The 5,000 mAh battery also powers the LED light and can charge your phone partway.
How heavy is it?
Target weight is 480 g — about 30% heavier than a standard automatic umbrella, comparable to a premium leather wallet in your bag.
Can I charge my phone from the umbrella?
Yes — the USB-C port outputs 5 V / 2 A, enough to give a typical smartphone roughly a 50% top-up from full umbrella battery.
Is the battery replaceable?
Yes. The handle unscrews so the 18650 cell can be swapped. Replacement cells available via our service network.
What is the warranty?
12 months on the electronics, 18 months on the frame. Doorstep replacement in 25 Indian cities.
