Overview

Roughly 85 million Indians work in someone else's home — cooks, maids, drivers, nannies, full-time live-in help, part-time cleaners, eldercare attendants. Almost none of them are on a formal platform. Hiring is hyper-local: a building watchman knows three didis, a cousin recommends a cook, a WhatsApp society group circulates a phone number.

The result is dysfunctional for both sides. Households cannot verify who is walking into their home. Workers have no record of past employers, no portable ratings, no formal way to negotiate wages, no PF, no insurance. Urban Company solved this for beauty, plumbing and AC repair — nobody has done it credibly for the longer, deeper, more intimate relationship of domestic help.

BIDUA's Verified Maids platform is a vertical marketplace built on top of the All Human Verification Platform. Every worker is BGV-cleared, photo and Aadhaar matched, address-verified, and rated by previous employers. Households book by the day, by the month, or full-time. Wages are paid digitally. Both sides have skin in the game.

India's domestic help economy moves on WhatsApp groups, building watchmen and a friend-of-a-friend recommendation. It is one of the largest unorganised workforces on earth — and the last big consumer category nobody has properly digitised.

Why now

The opportunity, on its own terms.

01

Urban households now expect on-demand everything.

The same family that books a Swiggy meal in 10 minutes is still finding a maid via the building watchman. The behavioural gap is closing.

02

Worker smartphone penetration crossed the threshold.

Jio data plus second-hand Android handsets mean a domestic worker today has the same connectivity as a delivery rider in 2019. App-based onboarding finally works.

03

Trust is the bottleneck — and we have already built a trust layer.

BIDUA's verification platform makes Verified Maids defensible. Anyone can build a directory; very few can build a credibly-checked one at scale.

04

The post-COVID help shortage made families pay more for reliability.

Households are willing to pay a small platform premium if it removes the no-show-on-Monday problem.

Market opportunity

Sized in three rings.

Total addressable
~₹3.5 lakh cr / yr
India domestic help wages (potential)
Untapped digital category
Serviceable
~₹85,000 cr / yr (expected)
Urban metro households
Top 30 cities, formalisable demand
BIDUA share aim
200k workers, 500k households
BIDUA 2030 target if validated
₹150–250 cr GMV potential
  • An estimated 85M domestic workers in India per ILO and NSSO estimates.
  • Average metro household spends ₹4,000–25,000/month on combined domestic help.
  • Urban Company beauty + cleaning vertical is already a ₹2,000 cr+ GMV proof-point.
  • Maid agencies in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore already charge ₹15,000–30,000 placement fees — the willingness-to-pay is established.

Business model

How it works, end to end.

01

Verified supply

Every worker on the platform clears BIDUA's verification stack: Aadhaar match, PAN where available, address verification, police record search and a face + liveness check. Verification is free to the worker; cost is recovered from employer placement fees.

02

Placement-fee model

Households pay a one-time placement fee (₹4,000–15,000 depending on category and city) for full-time hires. Part-time and daily bookings are commission-based at 12–18% of wages.

03

Worker upskilling

BIDUA runs short certification modules — cooking specialities, infant care, eldercare, English communication. Certified workers command 20–30% higher wages and split the upside with the platform.

04

Insurance and benefits

Every active worker gets a basic accident and life cover bundled in. Households get theft and breakage cover for the first 90 days post-placement. Both reduce the psychological friction of formalising a previously-informal relationship.

05

Society partnerships

Direct integrations with housing societies and MyGate-style apartment platforms — building managers get a verified worker registry; the platform gets distribution at zero CAC.

Competitive landscape

Who else is here — and why we're different.

01 Urban Company Adjacent marketplace: Strong in beauty and home services. Has tested but not committed to long-form domestic help.
02 Bookmybai Domestic help directory: Pioneer in the category. Limited verification depth and weak retention model.
03 Local maid agencies Offline incumbents: Charge high placement fees; minimal recourse; geographically fragmented.
What BIDUA does differently
  • Built on top of BIDUA's verification stack — competitors cannot match the depth of checks.
  • Worker-side benefits (insurance, upskilling) drive supply lock-in.
  • Replacement guarantee de-risks the first 90 days for households.
  • Society-level distribution partnerships reduce customer acquisition cost.

Risks & mitigation

What can go wrong — and how we plan for it.

Risk 1

Worker churn and poaching

Mitigation: Loyalty bonuses for sustained tenure; insurance benefits forfeited if the worker leaves the platform; gradual wage-escalation milestones.

Risk 2

Household disputes and safety incidents

Mitigation: 24x7 helpline, insurance cover, escrow-based wage handling for the first 30 days, and dispute-resolution committee.

Risk 3

Regulatory risk on classifying workers

Mitigation: Clear principal-employer documentation; worker not classified as platform employee; legal opinion refreshed annually.

Risk 4

Race to the bottom on placement fees

Mitigation: Quality moat through verification + insurance + upskilling — not pure price competition.

Risk 5

Supply concentration in source states

Mitigation: Diversified sourcing partnerships across Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Northeast over time.

Common questions

Questions partners and investors actually ask.

How are workers verified?

Every worker on the platform clears BIDUA's All Human Verification stack — Aadhaar, PAN, address, police records and a live face match. Reports are visible to the household before they confirm a placement.

What if the maid does not show up?

Daily and part-time bookings are backed by an SLA — we route a backup worker the same day. Full-time placements come with a 90-day replacement guarantee at no extra cost.

How is the placement fee structured?

Households pay a one-time placement fee depending on category (cook, cleaner, nanny, full-time) and city. Pricing is shown upfront — no offline negotiation.

Do workers get paid digitally?

Yes. Wages flow through a FinWault-backed worker account. Workers receive instant credit; households get a single monthly invoice and tax-friendly records.

Is the worker an employee of BIDUA?

No. The household is the principal employer. BIDUA is the placement and verification platform — the legal structure is similar to how staffing agencies operate.

What insurance is included?

Workers receive a basic accident and life cover while active on the platform. Households get a limited theft and breakage cover in the first 90 days post-placement.

Will this raise wages?

Yes — that is the point. Certified, verified, rated workers earn more. The platform splits the upside between worker, agency and the household paying for quality.

Which cities first?

Delhi NCR in 2027, then Mumbai and Bangalore, expanding to 10 cities by end-2028.
